The short version
Everything you write in Koro Mi — your journal entries, habit data, and mood history — stays on your device. We never transmit the raw text you write. Koro Mi is currently free, and in exchange we collect a small amount of anonymous, declared telemetry to keep the app stable and to improve the on-device AI: crash reports, basic usage events, and (optionally) anonymous mood-model feedback. None of this is used for advertising or sold to third parties.
What data we collect
Data that stays on your device (never transmitted)
- Journal entries and their content
- Habit names, completion history, and notes
- Mood classifications and scores
- App preferences and settings
All AI processing — mood classification, semantic search, pattern analysis — happens entirely on your device using on-device machine learning models. Your journal text itself is never sent to a server for processing, and it is never included in any of the data flows described below.
Data that is transmitted
We declare three, and only three, data flows that leave your device:
(a) Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) If the app crashes or encounters an unhandled error, an anonymous crash report is sent to Google Firebase Crashlytics. These reports contain:
- Technical error information (stack traces, exception type)
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
Crash reports never contain your journal entries, habit data, mood scores, or any content you have created in the app.
(b) Usage events (Google Analytics 4)
Koro Mi sends basic, aggregate usage events to Google Analytics 4 (GA4) — for example, an export_interest event logged when you tap the “Export my journal” option, so we know how many people want this feature. These events contain only the event name and simple technical/metadata parameters (counts, booleans, enum-like strings). They never contain journal text, embeddings, habit names, or any other user-generated content.
(c) Mood-model feedback (anonymous, opt-in correction) If you manually correct a mood classification Koro Mi got wrong, we send that correction to help improve the on-device mood model. This is product-improvement data, not commercial data — it is never sold, never used for advertising, and never linked back to you as a person. Each submission contains:
- The 384-dimension AI-generated embedding of the entry (a numeric vector derived from your writing, not the writing itself)
- The predicted mood and your corrected mood
- The feedback source, app locale, and app version
- An anonymous device identifier (a random ID created by anonymous Firebase authentication — it is not your name, email, or any account credential, and cannot be used to identify you)
This mood-feedback flow never includes the raw text of your journal entry — only the numeric embedding derived from it. This has been independently verified against the code that implements it (FirestoreFeedbackRepository), which writes only the embedding vector and the metadata listed above.
What data we do NOT collect
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials (no account is required)
- Your journal entries or their raw text content, under any of the flows above
- Your habits, goals, or completion history
- Your location
- Advertising identifiers or behavioral tracking data
- Any data shared with third parties for advertising purposes

No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services are used beyond the three declared above, and none of this data is used for advertising or sold to third parties.

Data retention
All data you create in Koro Mi is stored locally on your device. You can delete it at any time by deleting the app. Anonymous crash reports, GA4 usage events, and mood-feedback submissions retained by Google Firebase follow Google’s standard retention policies for each product.
Your rights
Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no user data tied to your identity to access, correct, or delete on our servers. To remove all data associated with Koro Mi, simply delete the app from your device.

Children
Koro Mi is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

We will update this page if our data practices change. The “last updated” date at the top of this document reflects the most recent revision.
